It has excellent drainage properties, provides better air circulation to the roots and acts as a reservoir of water and nutrients which are released to the plant gradually and evenly.It also does not create sediment and unlike compatible soil does not need to be supplemented over time. So thanks to its nutrients, it can be used in conventional pots but also in all planting systems, either as a drainage layer or as an alternative to regular soil.
